How to Prepare Your Travel eSIM Before Departure: Pre-Flight Checklist

Essential steps to take before leaving home: verifying carrier lock status, storing offline setup instructions, and configuring APN settings for a stress-free arrival.

How to Prepare Your Travel eSIM Before Departure: Pre-Flight Checklist

1. Confirm Your Phone is Carrier-Unlocked

An eSIM-compatible phone can only activate third-party travel plans if it is fully carrier-unlocked. If your phone was purchased under a monthly carrier installment contract, it might be software-locked to that carrier.

On iPhone, go to Settings > General > About > Carrier Lock. It should state 'No SIM restrictions'. On Android, check Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Network Operators.

2. Save the QR Code or Manual Activation String

Always keep a screenshot of your MileSIM QR code and copy the SM-DP+ Address and Activation Code into your phone's Notes app. If you lose Wi-Fi signal at the arrival gate, you can still complete manual setup without internet.
