Probably the most well known wines of the Sud-Ouest (South-West) region of France are Cahors and Madiran. Robust red wines are produced in Cahors. If the wine is made to drink young it is rich and plumy, but more often the growers intend the wine to age producing a spicier, darker wine. Right in the middle of a region which only produces white wine, Madiran is a sanctuary for red wine. It is produced from quality grape-varieties such as cabernet sauvignon and franc. But the most popular variety is tannat, a typical grape from the area. |
