  France / Champagne

The Champagne region spreads around the cities of Reims and Epernay in the north-east of France. The grapes of Champagne are primarily black. The chief grape is pinot noir which gives body. The other black grape is pinot meunier which makes a softer, fruitier style. The white grape used is chardonnay which produces a lighter, fresher juice.

The Champagne industry is divided between the large producers such as Moët and Chandon whose Champagnes dominate the French market and numerous smaller producers who produce excellent Champagnes at reasonable prices.
